Kahramanımız Wendell Armbruster Jr.’ın Amerika'dan İtalya'ya doğru yola koyulmasıyla açılır film. Amaç, İtalya'nın Ischia adasında geçirdiği bir trafik kazasında hayatını kaybeden ünlü iş adamı baba Wendell Armbruster'ı bu adadan alıp, birkaç gün içinde binlerce kişinin katılımıyla Baltimore'da gerçekleşecek olan cenaze törenine yetiştirmektir.
