Georges Franju’nun Les yeux sans visage’ı (Yüzsüz Gözler) hakkında pek çok şey yazılıp çizildi; bu film Paris Sinemateki’nin kurucularından olan yönetmenin korku filmi türüne el attığı tek çalışmasıydı. Sinema tarihinin en önemli filmlerinden birisi. Filmin tarihi bağlamda ifade edilmesi bir yana, özellikle seyirciye seslenen murder plot, aşk hikayesi vs. yönlerinin olması bunun nedenleri arasında sayılabilir. Carne & Prevert işbirliğini de bu başarıda gözardı etmemeliyiz. 1940′ların ortalarına doğru Fransız Sinemasının konumlandırılmasına bakıldığında bunda Marcel Carne ve onun ekibininin önemi gözler önüne serilir. Öyküde 1827-1828 yılları Fransa’sına panaromik bir bakış gözler önüne serilmektedir. Bu sahne özellikle akılda tutulmalıdır, filmin son sahnelerinde bu tip bir panaromik bakışa adeta simetri oluştururcasına geri dönülecektir. Açılış sahnesinin etrafında bulunan binalar seyircide derinlik hissi oluşturacak şekilde dizilmiştir ki bu izleyicide bir göz yanılması uyandırır. Ayrıca bu küçük setlerde, göz yanılması ve algı oyunlarıyla seyirciyi büyülemek amacıyla cüceler kullanılmıştır.

Sahnelerde hep ters ilişki var, burada asıl özgürlük bir hayalet gibi (komünist manifestonun giriş bölümünde böyle bir hayalet benzetmesi yapılmakta) küçük burjuva ve konfor arayışındaki insanların arasında sadece geziniyor.

The umpteenth adaptation of Dumas' novel finds d'Artagnan and his friends promoting the love affairs of Anne of Austria and the Duke of Buckingham, incurring the wrath of the Cardinal and exposing themselves to the cold cruelty of Milady de Winter. His younger sister Antoinette attracts and charms Philippe and excites the jealousy of Sylvie who informs Alvarez. The police get involved and Philippe is killed during a merciless fight.

Three young men are suspected of kidnapping and murdering a little boy. Most likely, two of them are really involved, but one is not. All of their pasts are questionable, riddled with violence and controversy. Neither the police nor the court can decide how to solve that puzzle.

Originally titled Nous Sommes Tout des Assassins, We Are All Murderers was directed by Andre Cayette, a former lawyer who detested France's execution system. Charles Spaak's screenplay makes no attempt to launder the four principal characters (Marcel Mouloudji, Raymond Pellegrin, Antoinine Balpetre, Julien Verdeir): never mind the motivations, these are all hardened murderers. Still, the film condemns the sadistic ritual through which these four men are brought to the guillotine. In France, the policy is to never tell the condemned man when the execution will occur--and then to show up without warning and drag the victim kicking and screaming to his doom, without any opportunity to make peace with himself or his Maker. By the end of this harrowing film, the audience feels as dehumanized as the four "protagonists." We Are All Murderers was roundly roasted by the French law enforcement establishment, but it won a special jury prize at the 1952 Cannes Film Festival.
