Demokratik Almanya Cumhuriyeti’nden kaçıp Batı’ya gitmek istiyorlardır ve planları ev yapımı bir sıcak hava balonu ile kaçmaktır. Haftalarca uğraşıp balonu diktikten sonra, amatörler ilk girişimlerinde bulunur. Batı Almaya sınırına metreler kala, yağmurdan dolayı ağırlaşan balonları yere düşer ama neyse ki polisten kaçmayı başarırlar. Ancak düşen balonun kalıntıları bulununca, polis bu kaçma girişiminde bulunan hainleri araştırmaya başlar. Aileler bir daha kaçma girişiminde bulunmaya karar verince olaylar daha gergin bir hal alır ama öte yandan kaçmaya çalışan hainleri bulamayan yetkililer, bir kaçış girişimi daha olacağını anlarlar. İki aile bu kaçışı gerçekleştirebilmek için arkalarında çok fazla iz bırakmadan gerekli malzemeleri alabilmeli, sorunsuz bir balon yapmalı ve poyrazın esmeye başlamasını beklemek zorundadır. Ancak bakalım herşey bu kadar kolay olacak mıdır?

The feelings and communication emerge from a very special way. Mary, who does not know the whereabouts and the reason of the absence of Marquard, realizes it by herself: their love is over. Then, she abruptly interrupts her work so far and starts a new painting entitled "The visible and invisible."
