Gallagher's mad as hell but he never shows it, because he's cool as well. He's back in this 1981 special and telling jokes... to prevent his anger from building up.

Skateboarding and stupidity have never looked this good. Jason "Wee Man" Acuna and Laban Pheidias wreak havoc and lay waste to anyone who crosses their path in American Misfits.

With his witty wordplay and wacky props, Leo Gallagher became one of the biggest comedy acts of the 1980s. The comedian’s most famous bit: smashing a watermelon with a giant mallet to the messy delight of audiences. His signature act was a gift and a curse, shooting him to superstardom while breeding both dismissive detractors and imitators, including his own brother. As tastes change, the aging Gallagher seeks the respect he deserves as an innovator in the art of stand-up comedy.

Legendary comedian, Gallagher, pokes fun at America.

This stand-up special kicks off with Gallagher's "Suitcase Circus", and out of it he pulls a new and improved Sledge-O-Matic. If he's smashing things right off the bat, you know this special is bound to get crazy.

A live performance by "Sledge-O-Matic" stand-up comedian Gallagher.

Lock up your watermelons, and anything else that splatters! With a name like "Sledge-O-Matic" you know Gallagher is sure to get crazy in this special filmed in 2000!

Featuring Gallagher's most elaborate staging, and imaginative use of props, he really did go Overboard when he did this one. Based on taking it easy, Gallagher discusses the beach, sexy babes, and flying killer whales. It's just plain fun!

A concert by stand-up comic Gallagher, featuring his usual plays on words and his patented bizarre use of props, climaxing with his finding a new use for watermelons.

Gallagher wants to talk to you about style. Yeah, the sweaty guy on roller skates with the one-of-a-kind "bowling ball wearing a hula skirt" hairdo. Might seem like an odd topic coming from the man who uses humor as a blunt instrument (and not just when he's wailing a watermelon with his Sledge-O-Matic), but that's just what you get in this hour-long stand-up piece from 1983. You see, for comedy's prop master extraordinaire, style isn't so much about finesse as it is about flair. Flair he's got in spades, as long as you're willing to call stupid hats and a trampoline disguised as a huge couch flair. The bits travel well-worn paths through mating and parenthood, and the material does often betray its age (the fact that National Enquirer headlines are stupid isn't exactly revolutionary comedy). However, what ultimately makes Gallagher giggle-worthy isn't the material itself, but the zeal with which he swings for the big laugh. Hammer in hand or not, the man's got style.

The unpredictable Gallagher is back in action for this comedy special, taped live at the Mayfair Music Hall in Santa Monica, California.

The Big Show is an American comedy-variety-musical television series produced and broadcast by NBC for several months in 1980. The series aimed to revitalize the moribund variety television genre, which had been in a downward spiral since the cancellations of The Ed Sullivan Show and The Carol Burnett Show a few years earlier. The Big Show took its title seriously, using a huge stage set and filling a 90-minute time-slot, with at least one two-hour installment broadcast. Although the first broadcast received high ratings, poor reviews and low ratings of succeeding episodes resulted in the program being cancelled after only a few months. The series nonetheless was nominated for six Emmy Awards, winning for Outstanding Costume Design. Regular performers included Joe Baker, Graham Chapman, Mimi Kennedy, Shabba-Doo and Pamela Myers. Guest hosts included Steve Allen, Nell Carter, David Copperfield, Geoffrey Holder, Gary Coleman, and Sid Caesar. Skaters who performed in the show included Peggy Fleming, Dorothy Hamill, John Curry, and Toller Cranston.
