Film, PC 233 ve PC 633 yaka nolu iki polisin sevgilileri tarafından terk edilmeleri sonrasında yaşamlarında yeni bir sayfa açmaya çalışmalarını konu ediyor. İçine düştükleri bu durumdan ve yemek yemek için uğradıkları "Midnight Express" adlı büfeden başka ortak özelliği olmayan iki karakterin öyküleri de film içinde herhangi bir ortaklığa sahip değil. Bu iki kaybetmiş polisin umutlarını yeniden kazanmaya çalışmaları, küçük sürprizlerle ve zekice diyaloglarla o kadar güzel anlatılmış ki filmin konusu hakkında daha fazla ipucu vermenin filmi ilk kez izleyecekler için haksızlık olacağını düşünüyoruz. Yeni bir sinema dili keşfetmek isteyenler için Chungking Express çok iyi bir başlangıç.
