J.G Ballard'ın oto-biyografik romanından uyarlanan "Güneş İmparatorluğu", Shangai'in Japon istilasına uğradığı 1941 yılında başlıyor. Zengin bir ailenin mutluluk içinde yaşayan genç üyesi Jim Graham şehirde yaşanan büyük kaos sırasında ailesini kaybediyor ve her gün onlarca insanın öldüğü bu karmaşada yapayalnız kalıyor. MÖ. 48'de, Roma İmparator'u Sezar Mısır'a sefere çıkmaya karar verir. Ptolemy Sezar'ın güvenini kazanmaya çalışırken, kurnaz eski Kraliçe Kleopatra Sezar'a küçük bir oyun oynar ve Ptolemy'i devredışı bırakır. In 1921 he was arrested and charged with poisoning his domineering wife, Catherine, and later attempting to poison a business rival, Oswald Martin, by administering arsenic to them. At his trial, Armstrong claimed that he had bought the arsenic simply to kill the dandelions on his lawn. However he was convicted of murder and executed in 1922.
