Zombi istilasından kaçarken bir alışveriş merkezine sığınan dört kişinin başına gelenleri konu edinen filmde Romero, ilk film Yaşayan Ölülerin Gecesi’nin (Night of the Living Dead, 1968) sahip olduğu politik alt metnin dozunu bir miktar daha arttırıyor.
