Arshinagar is a Bengali musical romance drama film directed by Aparna Sen. The screenplay is an adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.

The Bengali-language biopic looks back on Hiralal Sen, who is credited with making India’s first advertising film and political documentary.

Baghu Manna, a young alcoholic from a rural village, is married to a teenager, Moina. Neglecting responsibilities and relationships, Baghu drives everyone away, including his wife, but when Baghu tries to bring her back, humiliation forces him to confront his life.

In the 90s, Rajat left for Kolkata to chase his ambitions, leaving behind his wife Annapurna and son Somnath. Raised among his cousins, Somnath grew closer to his grandmother than his mother. When he was twelve, Annapurna succumbed to a terminal illness. Rajat, unaware until his return, was consumed by anger and left Manikpur with his son, vowing never to return.

From being a little girl in rural Bangladesh to being an entrepreneur in Kolkata, Indubala's journey is laced with the desolation of separation from her roots and the consolation of every taste being a memory of someone she has lost.
