Salatut elämät (Secret Lives) is a Finnish television soap opera that premiered on MTV3 on 25 January 1999. The series' storylines follow the daily lives of several families who live in the same apartment block in Helsinki.

Helsinki in the summer is shown differently through the eyes of the homicide unit detectives, Timo Harjunpää and Onerva Nykänen; painting a picture of the city where people are not safe in the streets or not even in their own homes. In the midst of the hard crimes it is impossible not to feel the constant worry about your own family while being afraid of losing touch with your children.

The 2001 World Ski Championships in Lahti, Finland, lead to the biggest scandal in Finnish sporting history.

Viktor Kärppä was forced involuntarily in the middle of Russia's internal power struggle. Soon bunch of assassins as well as Security Police are trying to catch Kärppä. Kärppä's family is also in great danger. In order to save themselves and their families they need to resort to Kärppäs friend, the police Korhonen , as well as his brother Aleksei.

Eveliina inherits old binoculars from her grandfather. Her disappointment turns into bafflement when she realizes the binoculars show a view one hour into the future.
