Tutku dolu genç kadınla evlenmeyi kabul da etse Tomas hastanedeki çapkınlıklarına devam eder ve Sabina'yı görmeyi sürdürür. Apolitik bir adam olan kahramanımız her ne kadar görmek istemiyor olsa da, ülkedeki özgürlük havası, Sovyetler Birliği'nin demir yumruklu müdahalesi ile yerini şiddete bırakmak üzeredir. They take him under their wing and lead him to break into his former company in order to get sleeping bags and beds.
