Joan Tewkesbury’nin senaryosu, geri planda, asıl konuyla bağlantı kurmak derdinde olmadan politik bir hikâye atıveriyor ortaya, böylece Vietnam Savaşı’nda atılan yanlış adımların ve yozlaşmış Nixon hükümetinin gölgesindeki Amerika’nın kendisini yeniden keşfettiği süreçteki tekinsiz atmosferi solumamızı sağlıyor. Film, politik mevzunun gelişimi içinde, “Country Müziği ve Western” manzarasına en iyi bakışı sunuyor ve 1970’lerin, Amerika metaforunu bitirip tüketen son filmi olduğunu kanıtlıyor. Yayılıp giden, dağınık, benzersiz bir tarzda çekilen, öyküselliği olmayan film, müzisyenler, menejerler, politikacılar, reklamcılar ve müzikseverlerden oluşan 24 karakterin, Nashville’deki koşuşturmacalı beş gün boyunca yapıp ettiklerini enfes bir tarzda gözlüyor.
