Elric kardeşler Edward ve Alphonse ölen annelerini diriltmek için alchemy’e başvururlar. Ama insan ruhunu ile değiş-tokuş yapılacak eş değerde bir şey bulunmamaktadır. Deney sırasında büyük kardeş Edward bacağını, küçük kardeş Alphonse ise bedenini kaybeder. Edward elindeki son çareyi kullanıp Al’ın ruhunu bir zırha bağlamayı başarır ama bu esnada da kolunu kaybeder. İki kardeş annelerinin dirilmesinin imkansız olduğunu büyük kayıplardan sonra anlar. Automail sayesinde mekanik uzuvlarına kavuşan Ed, kardeşine olanların kendi suçu olduğuna inanır. Al'ın bedenini geri almak ve alchemy’i daha da iyi öğrenmek için Elric kardeşler evlerini yakıp yolcuğa çıkarlar.

Makoto 'Smile' Tsukimoto and his friend Yutaka 'Peco' Hoshino have been playing table tennis together since they were kids, but as they enter high school, they find that the game, and how they see it, has changed. Peco, brimming with confidence and energy, wants to be the best in the world, but the reserved Smile has little fighting spirit and doesn't want to sacrifice others' happiness just to win, despite his innate talent. As the two grow, and experience the ups and downs of the sport – and life – they try to figure out exactly who they really are and what drives them to play.

Lupin & Jigen have their sights set on a treasure called the Little Comet, which is located in the heavily fortified country of East Doroa. During the heist, Jigen is almost killed by a sniper named Yael Okuzaki. His specialty is preparing tombstones for his targets before executing them. It's said that no one can survive after Yael makes their tombstone.
