Ancak en büyük sorun Gilles hiç Farsça bilmiyordur ve Koch’a öğretmek için yeni bir dil yaratmak zorundadır. Kamptaki diğer askerler onun yalanını ortaya çıkarmak için ellerinden geleni yaparlarken, Gilles uydurduğu bir kelimeyi bile unutursa bedelini hayatıyla ödemek zorunda kalabilir.
