Sinema tarihinin en önemli filmlerinden birisi. Filmin tarihi bağlamda ifade edilmesi bir yana, özellikle seyirciye seslenen murder plot, aşk hikayesi vs. yönlerinin olması bunun nedenleri arasında sayılabilir. Carne & Prevert işbirliğini de bu başarıda gözardı etmemeliyiz. 1940′ların ortalarına doğru Fransız Sinemasının konumlandırılmasına bakıldığında bunda Marcel Carne ve onun ekibininin önemi gözler önüne serilir. Öyküde 1827-1828 yılları Fransa’sına panaromik bir bakış gözler önüne serilmektedir. Bu sahne özellikle akılda tutulmalıdır, filmin son sahnelerinde bu tip bir panaromik bakışa adeta simetri oluştururcasına geri dönülecektir. Açılış sahnesinin etrafında bulunan binalar seyircide derinlik hissi oluşturacak şekilde dizilmiştir ki bu izleyicide bir göz yanılması uyandırır. Ayrıca bu küçük setlerde, göz yanılması ve algı oyunlarıyla seyirciyi büyülemek amacıyla cüceler kullanılmıştır.
