But Jeff, who has developed a fondness for Jean, intervenes to save the couple.

European produced Western based on the novel by Friedrich Gerstäcker, set in the 19th century in a town on the banks of the Mississippi River. The area is plagued by a gang of pirates under the leadership of Captain Kelly, who live on an island in the river, from where they operate raids on passing steamboats and traders rafts, robbing them of their cargo and murdering the crews. Townspeople and settlers do their best to put an end to the crimes and rid themselves of the pirates and their daring leader.

Antonin, Honoré and Papillote are sailors on the ship "L'Invincible". The three friends are in love with three pretty girls in Toulon: Honoré is in love with Mireille who, as for her, loves Antonin, and Papillote only has eyes for Angèle who, after a fifteen-month-long cruise,presents him a newborn baby that she claims is their son! A new woman appears: Patricia, as sexy as she is mysterious. Antonin, although disconcerted, falls under her spell. What he does not know is that Patricia is not a journalist as she says she is but a secret service agent who has been assigned the mission to investigate Eric Bergen, a shady fellow the trio meets everyday at Arsène's Café.

A merchant, without audacity with women, is dragged by a friend into the worst marital complications. His setbacks will ultimately pay him off.

A trio of seedy gangsters, Gigi, Totor and Jo, manage to snatch a suitcase of diamonds, which they promptly lose. The precious luggage is recovered by Ernest Mamourette, a distracted salesman. The police suspect him of being behind the hold-up and the safe. Gigi reappears under the identity of a certain Countess Olga and expresses her desire to marry Mamourette, who is released from prison, and is drawn into a burglary at the home of the real Countess, who, on the point of committing suicide, is reunited with Ernest, her beloved husband, whom she thought had disappeared.

Mimile is a street singer and also a very inventive free rider. With his friend Georges, a musician in the same orchestra, they meet Arlette Sicleton and Lulu. Arlette is the sister of Sicleton, a sports event organizer and Lulu is the daughter of Ledoux, the supervisor in charge of tracking down free riders. After many misunderstandings, love will triumph.

Director Jean Delannoy's immediate followup to his brilliant Les Jeux sont Faits was the more conventional Aux Yeux du Souvenir (aka Souvenir and To the Eyes of Memory). The film is based on a true story, wherein an France airliner managed to survive a journey from Rio De Janeiro to Dakar with two of its engines incapacitated. To this already intensely dramatic situation has been added a romantic subplot involving Claire Magny (Michele Morgan) and Jacques Forester (Jean Marais). The love story adds very little to the film; fortunately, neither does it detract from the film's overall quality. As was the case with many French productions of the 1940s, Aux Yeux du Souvenir benefits immeasurably from the Wagnerian musical score by Georges Auric.

When she takes up her new post at an eerie convalescent home deep in the French countryside, nurse Martine soon discovers that several missing co-workers may have fallen prey to an unspeakable evil rumored to roam the hallways at night. But as Martine looks deeper into the mystery, she suspects the home's aged residents know more about the menace than they let on.

The struggles of a small business owner come to light in this film by director André Cayatte. The proprietor of a fabric shop, M. Baudu faces stiff competition when a department store moves in across the street, the first of its kind in 1860s Paris. On top of the stresses associated with the rival retailer, Baudu’s niece and two nephews take up residence with him after recently being orphaned. The niece, Denise Baudu, sees the writing on the wall for her uncle’s business so she takes a job as a shop girl with his competitor and despite her success the decision does not register well with the family.

Three priests in cassocks visit a modest and naive country priest in a village in the South of France. They claim to be sent by the bishop for the purpose of recovering a precious reliquary currently in the hands of a vigorously anti-clerical squire. The non apostolic behavior of the three priests causes the disturbance in the village without altering the confidence of the priest. But the situation is complicated at the Sunday Mass: one is drunk on the sacristy, the other improvises a sermon not very Catholic and the third is a mess in the choir of singing. With the naive complicity of the priest, their scam is about to end ...

Wounded during a rugby match he'd come to Paris to play, Tonin Bonnafous, a thoroughbred southerner, settled in Paris with a former stalag mate he'd happily met. Tonin liked the asylum. His friends are charming, and there's a neighbor, Martine, a young cinema extra, whom Tonin finds to his liking. Through his electrician friend, Tonin gets a job on the radio, and through his young neighbor, he even gets a job as an extra in the cinema.

Just as she is about to marry Jules, Nénette realizes that an adventuress has borrowed her identity in order to marry Hubert de Mont-Vermeil. But at the same time, a cardinal arrives, and the truth must be kept from him. Nénette passes for Hubert's wife, and the cardinal spends his time reconciling the pseudo-spouses. After many misunderstandings, Hubert and Nénette discover that they love each other, while Jules marries the pretty soubrette, not without first inoculating Hubert's virtuous aunt with his taste for racing.
