Alice lives with her younger sisters in a rural Finnish village, in a house their mother build before she passed away. As the new head of the family, she wants to protect her younger sisters and shelter them from the outside world. When the solar storm hits the village it leaves everyone without electricity and puts the community in the middle of a crisis.

In 1989 a country boy doesn't want to eat potatoes at home. He wants to introduce something more exotic to his parents. One day he takes his savings and his moped to a pizzeria in town.

Two 9-year-old boys, Jontti and Länki, grow up in a Finnish seaside town in the 1960s. Länki's biggest dream is to run away on a ship to the sea where his father is rumoured to have died.
