A man’s body is found in the suburbs of Tokyo. The dead man was hit by a car and his head beaten by the reckless driver after the accident. The dead man had a wife named Noriko. She likes fancy things and she has a lover named Tsukada. It's also learned that the dead man was insured for 300 million yen. The media and the public look at Noriko and her boyfriend Tsukada with suspicion, but they have perfect alibis. Then, Detective Hibiki, who is in charge of the case, and Private Detective Kono become involved in a series of mysterious murder cases.

The body of a young woman is discovered in a park in Tokyo with all her organs removed. The case is assigned to Detective Inukai, a usually cool and unemotional detective known for seeing through the lies of others. Hairstylist Shota Kawamura (Kento Hayashi) lives in Paris, but returns to Osaka when he learns his mother Sumire Kawamura (Yoshiko Tokoshima) his mother has passed away. He has a strong dislike for his father Goro Kawamura (Kotaro Yoshida) who neglected his mother. His father runs the small hair salon "Aozora." After his father injures himself, Shota Kawamura must fill-in for his father at Aozora and work employee Haruka Nakai (Rina Kawaei). Shota Kawamura learns that the business is experiencing financial difficulties.

Mystery writer Kosaku Asahina scores yet another scoop in a case that occurred in the streets. He even personally conducts investigations and frequently makes these cases the basis for his own novels. It maybe because his late father was a scholar that he is cool, but brims with curiosity and action. One day, Kosaku is facing the computer in his living room and writing a new novel. The novel is based on the baffling case of a female who fell to her death in Setagaya in the past. Kosaku had personally conducted interviews and inspected the scene of her death, but still cannot get to the truth. Then a letter addressed to his father Konosuke who died more than 20 years ago, is delivered to Kosaku. The name of the sender is the female whose mysterious death from a fall, is the subject of Kosaku’s new novel.

Heizo's cousin Senemon Misawa and his son Katsuzo visited Heizo's home. Heizo learns that Senemon has fallen in love with Katsutoshi, a woman who works at the Yamabukiya Tea House, and has asked her to marry him. Heizo decided to visit Yamabukiya, saying "I will try to find out if this woman is a bodhisattva or a demon."
