Ertesi gün bir hücreye kilitlendiğinde, İkinci Dünya Savaşı sırasındaki çocukluğunun anıları yeniden canlanmıştır: Polis memuru babası Jens Ole Jepsen, dost canlısı dışavurumcu ressam Ludwig Nansen'e 1943'te bir "profesyonel diskalifiye" (berufsverbot) getirmekle görevlendirilir. Siggi'nin, Nansen'in gözetimi konusunda babasına yardım etmesi gerekirken aksine babasına isyan eder, inatçı Nansen'ın yanında yer alır ve bazı yasak resimlerini saklaması sonucunda kendisinin akıl hastanesine gönderilmesine yol açar.
