Senatör Ranse Stoddard, Vahşi Batı’da bulunan Shinbone şehrine, arkadaşı Tom Doniphon’un cenazesi için geri döner. Shinbone’da senatörün ne yaptığını merak eden bir gazeteciye, kariyerinin “Liberty Valance’ı vuran adam” olarak nasıl başladığını anlatır. Silahların hukuk kurallarının yerine geçtiği Shinbone’a, Batı'ya kanunu getirme amacı bulunan bir avukat olarak gelir. Bir posta arabası kanundışı şekilde zapt edildiğinde Rense, Liberty Valance tarafından vahşice dövülür. Ranse, Valance’ı adalete getirmenin bir yolunu bulmaya çalışırken Shinbone halkına okuma yazma da öğretir. Sonunda bir silah alarak Valance’ın karşısına dikilir.

Rogers manages to straighten out the situation by appealing to the sensibilities of the aunt (Elizabeth Risdon) of McKenzie's hotheaded hired assassin (Byron Barr). The film also bears several musical numbers from Roy, Dale Evans, and Foy Willing and the Riders of the Purple Sage.

The Rifleman is an American Western television program starring Chuck Connors as rancher Lucas McCain and Johnny Crawford as his son, Mark McCain. It was set in the 1880s in the town of North Fork, New Mexico Territory. The show was filmed in black-and-white, half-hour episodes. "The Rifleman" aired on ABC from September 30, 1958 to April 8, 1963 as a production of Four Star Television. It was one of the first prime time series to have a widowed parent raise a child.
