The film is a satire on the clichés used in sports dramas. The series is set in the Russian Empire during the second half of the 19th century, against the backdrop of social upheaval and the Russo-Turkish War. At the heart of the story is the romance between Sofya, a student at the Institute for Noble Young Ladies, and the married Count Vorontsov.

The film takes place in two conditional "worlds" separated by symbolic gates. The first world is modernity, the 21st century, where life is in full swing. The second world is a kind of "magical" space of a fairy tale with all its inherent attributes – luxurious palaces, amazing clothes, harems, intrigues and wizards.
