Ülkemizde Zombi adı ile vizyona giren korku klasiği 1978 yapımı Dawn of the Dead, zombi filmlerinin babası ünlü yönetmen George A. Romero’nun ‘Yaşayan Ölüler’ serisinin ikinci filmi. Zombi istilasından kaçarken bir alışveriş merkezine sığınan dört kişinin başına gelenleri konu edinen filmde Romero, ilk film Yaşayan Ölülerin Gecesi’nin (Night of the Living Dead, 1968) sahip olduğu politik alt metnin dozunu bir miktar daha arttırıyor.

Savaş sona ermiş ve kaybedilmişti. Yürüyen ölülerin elinde dünya, artık tamamen kontrolden çıkmıştı. Bazı küçük gruplar halindeki az sayıda yaşayan insanlar, zorda olsa hayatta kalabilmişti.
