"Edebiyatla sinemanın kusursuz evliliği" olarak nitelendirilen filmin çekimleri tam yedi yıl sürmüş, yapımda binlerce oyuncu rol almış ve dönemin koşullarında 100 milyon dolara mal olmuştur.
