Film, konusunu 1944'te Polonya'da Nazi işgaline karşı başlatılan Varşova ayaklanmasından alır. Müfreze kanalda üç gruba ayrılır, film bu üç grubun hikayelerini birbirlerinden bağımsız, paralel olarak anlatır. Böylece karşı tarafın bir üyesi haline gelir.Üçüncüsü; treni kaçırır ve kimse ile tartışmadan yoluna gidecek iken okuldan bir kız ile tanışır. İleride bu kız ile evlenip, okulunu bitirip, bir doktor olarak huzurlu ve apolitik bir hayat sürmeye başlar.
