Hedefsiz bir yaşam sürdürmekte, günlerini kumar oynamakla geçirmekte ve ailesinden giderek uzaklaşmaktadır. Bu sırada bir bebek kaçırma işi başını büyük belaya sokar. Bu bebek, şehirdeki en zengin kadının tek torunudur ve Ren ile arkadaşları Bao Zugong ve Ba Datong tarafından kaçırılarak mafya şefine verilecek ve büyük miktarda fidye parası istenecektir. Ancak bu olay Ren’in hayatında önemli bir dönüm noktası haline gelir. Hırsızlar ve mafya şefi arasında aracılık yapan kişi, küçük bir olay nedeniyle cezaevine girer. Bu nedenle bebek, Ren" in evine bırakılmak zorunda kalınır ve böylece Ren ve Ba" nın yaşamları, altüst olur. Mafya şefi ise intikam için bir katil göndererek bebeği ele geçirmeye karar verir. Bebek ve şaşkın hırsızlar çetesi büyük tehlikelerle karşı karşıya kalırlar.

Like all grown-ups, he has to grapple with harsh reality. McDull and his mates are scattered all over the place. Each one of them has to find his or her own path. In each of their hearts, they know they have failed. Meanwhile, life goes on in the kindergarten. Someone strums a guitar and the pupils chime in to the song: Puff the magic dragon, lives by the sea… A dragon lives forever, but not so little boys. With hindsight, McDull believes this could well be the maxim of the Flower on the Spring Field Kindergarten alumni.
