Ruthless stockbroker John McLane has ruined James Horton through reckless money management. McLane is extremely hard in business matters. When Horton’s son, Walter, confronts McLane they have a stormy altercation in which McLane is accidentally killed with a paper knife. McLane’s blind daughter Nora has been upstairs during the incident but runs down to find Horton sitting in a chair feigning sleep. Nora touches him lightly on the face thus impressing his features in her mind and when she turns to her father he flees. In time Nora’s blindness is cured and at a house party she meets Walter Horton. He recognizes her but she does not know him, and they fall in love but when she touches his face, she realizes the truth.

Since Emmett wants his daughter Madeline to marry Lowell, he tells his ward, after his eyesight has been restored, that Tangletop, who gladly goes along with the plan, is Mollie. As Emmett hoped, his ward's ardor starts to cool, but then, after Tangletop comes under the influence of the Reverend Clyde Harmon, she confesses everything to Lowell. As soon as she finishes, Lowell seeks out the real Mollie and marries her, after which Tangletop marries Clyde.

Mrs. Waite chaperones her daughter and sweetheart rather severely. The Grouch Chaser is produced and soon mamma is distracted and the lovers are not disturbed. The first cartoon is "The Hicks in Nightmareland." Hercules dreams that he takes a tonic which gives him great strength. He wakes up to find his wife slapping his little bald head because he had talked loudly in his sleep. "The Three Loose Jointed Dancers" shows a man with a silk hat, an ostrich and a skeletonic son of Terpischore tripping the light fantastic. In "The Lovers' Version of a Chaperone" the two lovers are seated on the sofa with the ugly chaperone guarding them. Suddenly the chaperone evolves into a most hideous dragon. In this monstrous form the chaperone continues to glare at the couple through its bulging eyes, and opens the large mouth wide, showing its fangs. The dragon is then reduced to the chaperone again. The real chaperone sees the picture, and realizes that it is time for her to make herself scarce.
