Bir tarafta Helsinki'de yaşayan suratsız ve soğuk bir adam olan restoran sahibi Wickström, diğer tarafta ise bombalarla sarsılan Halep'ten kaçarak kız kardeşi ile yollara düşen Suriyeli bir göçmen, Khaled. Bu uzun yolculukta kız kardeşi kaybolur ve Khaled bir geminin kazan dairesinde Helsinki'ye varır. Adeta bir uzaylı gibi gezdiği Finlandiya'da göçmenlik başvurusu yapan Khaled'i bürokratik saçmalıklar rahat bırakmaz ve göçmenlik bürosu, Halep'te bir sorun olmadığını, o yüzden ülkesine geri dönmesi gerektiğini söyler. Bir yandan da kız kardeşini bulmaya çalışan Khaled, Wickström'ün restoranında yaşamaya başlar. Bu birbirinden tamamen farklı iki insan hem iş arkadaşı hem de dost olurken dünya da her zamanki gibi dönmeye devam edecektir.
