Daha sonra Mübadele kararının çıkması ile , Marika ve ailesi diğer Rumlarla beraber zorunlu olarak Yunanistan'a göç ederler. Ailesi Yunanistan'a göç eden tüm Anadolu Rumları Yunanistan'da dışlanır ve hor görülürler. Pirede sefil barakalarda yaşamaya çalışırlar. Daha sonra annesi gibi bir rembetiko şarkıcısı olan Marika özlemlerini, dışlanmışlıklarını, hüzünlerini ve sefaletlerinin acısını, rembetiko şarkıları ile tüm dünyaya haykırır.

The daughter of a wealthy shipowner is kidnapped by a ruthless gang and her father terrorized.

A girl from the countryside, Marina (Katerina Gogou), comes to Athens to work in the shop of a family friend (Theodoros Katsadramis) of her father. She rents an apartment with a naive girl (Jenny Rousea), who will be married by a lazy womanizer (Lefteris Vournas). The latter, after throwing out her husband, will leave their baby with Marina and disappear. After six years, she will return and ask for her daughter back. However, Marina, who has raised the little girl as her own child, refuses to grant her request. They arrive at the courts, where despite the support of her suitor and lawyer (Christos Negas), she will be forced to part with little Rinoula.

A retired diplomat has begun writing a historical novel about the legendary Captain Meϊtanos, who lived in the 17th century. Initially, he was a klepht (bandit), then an armatolos (member of irregular forces), then a klepht again, until finally winding up in the Ottoman hangman’s noose. Captain Meϊtanos was described by monks who lived for many years after his death, recounting his activities and passing on his story. Memories are revived; snatches of a story and mystery emerge, such as that of a holy icon painted in 1715 by the iconographer Vaϊos – an icon which adds additional color and detail to this story.

Up against his money-grabbing relatives, his compromised superiors, and the state, a firm painter decides to protest by bricking up the windows of his house. Everyone wants to get their hands on his legacy. Will the protectors succeed?
