As a juvenile shoemaker he was sent to a reformatory, as a railroad thief - to prison, and as a laborer - to a quarry in the God's Gift mine. The film uses interviews with Jan Himilsbach, excerpts from films featuring him, the song "Happiness, Where Are You," for which he wrote the lyrics, and autobiographical novellas set in Minsk Mazowiecki.
